ATX Science Olympiad operates the app titled ATX Science Olympiad (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use our App. We are committed to protecting user privacy and being transparent about our data practices.

1. Information We Do Not Collect

The ATX Science Olympiad App is designed to function without collecting personal information. Specifically:

  • We do not require users to create an account or log in.
  • We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, physical addresses, or other personally identifiable information.
  • We do not collect sensitive personal data.

Any information entered into the App (such as division level, school name, or selected events) is entered voluntarily by the user and is stored locally on the user’s device only. This information is not transmitted to us or stored on our servers.

2. Firebase Realtime Database Usage

The App uses Firebase Realtime Database solely to:

  • Deliver general, real-time tournament updates (e.g., announcements, schedule changes, alerts).

Firebase is not used to:

  • Identify individual users
  • Track users across apps or websites
  • Collect personal or device-identifiable information

Data accessed from Firebase is the same for all users and is read-only from the user’s perspective.

3. Maps Functionality

The App has the capability to open Google Maps on request to help users navigate the tournament campus of The University of Texas at Austin.

  • We do not collect or store location data.
  • Any location-related processing is handled directly by Google Maps according to Google’s privacy policies.

4. Children’s Privacy

The ATX Science Olympiad App is intended for use by students, including children under the age of 13.

  • We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
  • Because the App does not collect personal data, it complies with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

If you believe that personal information has been inadvertently provided to us, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

5. Data Security

Because the App does not collect or store personal user data, there is no personal data retained on our servers. General update content is securely hosted using Firebase infrastructure managed by Google.

6. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party service(s) solely for functionality:

  • Firebase Realtime Database – for general updates

These service(s) may process limited technical information as required for their operation, in accordance with their own privacy policies.

7. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
